First steps with CoinPouch
What is CoinPouch?
CoinPouch is a coin counter app for iPhone and iPad. Sort coins by denomination, weigh each pile on a digital scale, and the app turns those grams into a precise coin count and total value — no manual counting required.
How does CoinPouch work?
CoinPouch uses the official mint weight of every supported coin to convert grams into a count. Sort, weigh, type the grams. The app returns the exact count and total. See How it works for a full walkthrough.
Is CoinPouch free?
Yes — CoinPouch is free to download on the App Store, with no ads and no in-app purchases for the core counting features.
Do I need to create an account?
No. CoinPouch has no accounts, no sign-ups and no logins. Open the app and start counting.
Where can I download CoinPouch?
CoinPouch is available on the Apple App Store. Download it here.
How long does a typical count take?
A typical mixed jar of change finishes in about three minutes — most of that time is the initial sort by denomination. Weighing each pile takes seconds.
Can I use CoinPouch without internet?
Yes. CoinPouch works fully offline. Counting, calibration and PDF export all run locally on your device.
What do I need to start using CoinPouch?
Three things: an iPhone or iPad with CoinPouch installed, a digital scale that reads in grams, and the coins you want to count.
Is CoinPouch suitable for beginners?
Yes. The interface is designed to be approachable — pick a currency, pick a denomination, type in the grams. No coin-counting experience needed.
Can I install CoinPouch on multiple devices?
Yes — install it on as many of your devices as you like with the same Apple ID. Each device runs independently and stores its counts locally.
Counting Coins
How counting by weight works
How do I count coins with CoinPouch?
Sort coins by denomination into separate piles, place one pile on your scale, read the grams, and type that number into CoinPouch under the matching denomination. The app shows the count and total instantly.
Do I need to sort coins before weighing?
Yes. Sorting is the only manual part of the workflow. Each denomination has a different official weight, so they need to be weighed separately for an accurate count.
Can I weigh different denominations together?
No. Each denomination has its own official weight, so a mixed pile can't be resolved into a precise count. Sort first, then weigh each pile separately.
How accurate is CoinPouch?
Accurate when coins are sorted correctly and weighed on a digital scale. The app uses official mint specifications for every supported denomination.
What if my coins are worn or dirty?
Worn or dirty coins can reduce accuracy. For best results, give them a quick clean and weigh similar coins together. The calibration mode also helps with consistently worn piles.
Can CoinPouch count both coins and banknotes?
Yes. CoinPouch doubles as a cash counter — enter the number of banknotes per denomination and the app adds them to your coin total for a single combined grand total.
How do I count banknotes?
Switch to cash mode, pick the denomination, and type the number of notes you have. There's no need to weigh banknotes — just count and enter.
Can I count foreign coins?
Yes, if the currency is one of the 11 supported (USD, EUR, GBP, CHF, JPY, KRW, CAD, AUD, NOK, DKK, SEK). Pick the currency at the top, then proceed as usual.
How does the app handle commemorative or special coins?
CoinPouch is built for circulating coins. Commemorative or special-issue coins often have different weights and aren't reliably counted by weight — set them aside for a manual count.
Can I undo or correct a count?
Yes. You can clear individual denominations or reset the whole session at any time. Recent entries can be edited directly without starting over.
Currencies & Cash
Currencies, denominations and cash
Which currencies does CoinPouch support?
CoinPouch supports 11 currencies: US Dollar (USD), Euro (EUR), Pound Sterling (GBP), Swiss Franc (CHF), Japanese Yen (JPY), Korean Won (KRW), Canadian Dollar (CAD), Australian Dollar (AUD), Norwegian Krone (NOK), Danish Krone (DKK) and Swedish Krona (SEK).
Can I request a new currency?
Yes. Email us with the currency you'd like to see and we'll add it to the roadmap. We add new currencies regularly.
Can I switch between currencies during a session?
Yes. Switching currency starts a fresh count for that currency — your previous session's totals stay where they are.
Does CoinPouch work with euro coins from any country?
Yes. Euro coins from every Eurozone country share the same official spec per denomination, so CoinPouch counts them interchangeably.
Are old or withdrawn coins supported?
Most demonetized or withdrawn coins are not in the database. For circulating coins of the supported currencies the answer is yes.
Can I count banknotes as well as coins?
Yes. CoinPouch has a separate cash mode for banknotes — enter the number of notes per denomination and the app combines them with your coin total.
Are commemorative coins included in counts?
No. Commemorative coins typically deviate from the standard mint spec, so they should be set aside and counted by hand if needed.
Are pre-1982 US pennies handled?
Older US pennies have a different composition than current ones. For best accuracy weigh them separately from modern pennies, or set them aside.
Can I count multiple currencies in one session?
Each count is scoped to a single currency, but you can run as many counts as you like back-to-back. Switching currencies is instant.
How does the app display totals?
Totals appear in the currency you've selected, with the country's standard formatting (commas vs. dots, currency symbol position, etc.).
Use Cases & Workflows
Real-world workflows with CoinPouch
What's the typical workflow for a café or small shop?
At end-of-day: tip the till's coins onto a flat surface, sort by denomination, weigh each pile, and CoinPouch returns the total. Add banknotes in cash mode. Export as PDF and email it alongside your POS report.
Can CoinPouch help with charity drives or fundraisers?
Yes. Sort donated coins by denomination, weigh each pile, and get a precise total. The PDF export makes it easy to share with stakeholders or attach to a donor report.
Does CoinPouch work for vending route collections?
Yes. After collecting from machines, sort and weigh as usual. The PDF export gives you a clean per-stop tally for your operator records.
Can I use CoinPouch to count a tip jar?
Yes. A typical mixed tip jar takes a couple of minutes — sort, weigh each denomination, and share the total with the team.
Is CoinPouch good for coin collectors?
For circulating coins, yes. Numismatic or rare coins often deviate from mint specifications and should be weighed separately or counted by hand.
Does CoinPouch work for piggy banks and change jars?
Perfect use case. Pour out, sort by denomination, weigh each pile. A typical piggy bank takes about three minutes.
Can multiple staff members use CoinPouch?
Yes. CoinPouch runs locally on each device — every staff member's iPhone or iPad works independently with no shared setup.
Can CoinPouch close a cash register?
Yes. Combine coins (counted by weight) with banknotes (counted by hand) into one grand total — your drawer balance for the shift.
Is CoinPouch suitable for end-of-month reconciliation?
It shines for daily counts and tills. For monthly reconciliation, run a count per day, save each PDF, and consolidate in your accounting software.
What's the largest pile CoinPouch can handle?
There's no software limit. The practical bottleneck is your scale's capacity — most kitchen scales handle 3–5 kg of coins easily, which is well over $100 in mixed change.
Export & Sharing
Exporting and sharing your counts
Can I export my counts?
Yes. CoinPouch can export any count as a PDF — one line per denomination with the count and value, plus a grand total.
What format does the export use?
PDF. The file is a clean, printable document you can email, attach to bookkeeping software, or hand to a bookkeeper.
How do I share a count with someone?
Tap the share button after exporting. CoinPouch hands the PDF to the iOS share sheet, so you can send it via Mail, Messages, AirDrop, Files, or any other share-sheet target.
Can I save counts for later?
Yes. Counts are saved locally on the device until you clear them. Export to PDF for an off-device record.
Does the export include a summary?
Yes. The PDF shows each denomination with its count and value, plus a grand total at the bottom.
Can I email the PDF directly?
Yes. From the share sheet pick Mail (or any email client installed on the device) and the PDF attaches automatically.
Is there a print option?
Yes — from the share sheet pick Print to send the PDF to any AirPrint-compatible printer.
Can I edit a count before exporting?
Yes. You can adjust each denomination's entry before generating the PDF. The PDF reflects whatever the current totals are.
Where is the PDF saved?
From the share sheet, pick "Save to Files" to store it anywhere on your device or in iCloud Drive.
Does CoinPouch keep a history of exports?
The current count is preserved until you clear it. For long-term records, save the PDF to Files or email it to yourself after each session.
