How it works

Count coins in 3 simple steps.

Sort. Weigh. Type. CoinPouch uses the official mint weight of every denomination to turn a pile of mixed change into an exact total — in about three minutes.

The 3 steps

From change jar to exact total — in minutes.

Step 1 — sort coins by denomination into separate piles
Step 1

Sort your coins

Separate your coins by denomination — pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters into individual piles. The only manual part of the process, and it takes about a minute for a normal change jar.

Step 2 — place a pile of one denomination on a digital scale set to grams
Step 2

Weigh each pile

Place one denomination on a digital scale set to grams. Note the weight. Any kitchen scale that reads to 0.1 g works — no specialty hardware required.

Step 3 — enter the weight in CoinPouch and see the exact count and total value
Step 3

Enter the weight

Open CoinPouch, choose the currency and denomination, type the grams. The app returns the exact coin count and dollar (or euro, pound…) total instantly. 🎉

What you need

Three things — all of them you probably already have.

No coin sorter, no bank trip, no account signup. Just:

iPhone or iPad

The free CoinPouch app, running iOS 16 or newer. No account, no signup.

Digital scale

Any kitchen or pocket scale that reads grams. 0.1 g resolution recommended for best accuracy.

Your coins

Mixed change, a charity bucket, a register drawer — anything denominated in one of 11 supported currencies.

Why it works

Math, not magic.

Every circulating coin has an official mint specification. CoinPouch has those values built in for 11 currencies.

When you tell the app how many grams are on the scale, it returns the exact count and total value — no counting required, no estimates.

  • Built on official mint specifications
  • Works with any digital scale (grams)
  • Counts compute in under 50 ms — no waiting

Pro tips

Four tips for the cleanest counts.

  • 1 Weigh one denomination at a time. Mixed piles defeat the whole method.
  • 2 Put the scale on a flat, stable surface. Tilted scales lie.
  • 3 Set aside heavily worn or damaged coins for a separate count.
  • 4 Use the PDF export for any count you'll need to reconcile later — bookkeeping, charity drives, vending closures.
FAQ

Common questions

A few quick answers — for everything else see the full FAQ.

Do I need a special scale?
No. Any digital kitchen or pocket scale that reads grams works. 0.1 g resolution is recommended for best accuracy.
Can I weigh different denominations together?
No. Each denomination has a different official weight, so mixing them on the scale would give inaccurate totals. Sort by denomination first.
How accurate is it?
Accurate when coins are sorted correctly and weighed on a digital scale.
Does it work without internet?
Yes. CoinPouch runs fully offline — no account, no internet connection needed.
Can I count cash too?
Yes. CoinPouch has a separate cash mode where you enter banknote counts per denomination, then it combines coins + cash into a single grand total.
